Final poster design for Iowa State University’s Art & Design Annual. Designed for them through my practicum class. Concept/type by me, photography by Britta Mennecke.
Here’s a peak of a poster design I am working on for my graphic design practicum studio.
Client: Iowa State University’s Stupka Symposium.
If they choose my design, this will be a really great way for me to work on organizing A LOT of text in a relatively small area. Here is last year’s poster for a reference (I borrowed that text cause they don’t have this year’s info yet).
I had my sophomore review today, and it actually went pretty well. I got some feedback that can just be brushed aside (the critiquer’s interpretation of the cliche I used for a project differed from mine), some that I already knew, and some that I wasn’t really aware of. Aside from the first category, it was all extremely helpful.
Then tonight at GDSA, some faculty members were reviewing work to help decide what should go in a portfolio, and I got the best piece of feedback so far on one of my editorial spreads. I think changing the background to purple on the first page drastically improved it from the somewhat average quality it was before. He also helped me pick my three strongest items to include in an application for an internship at my school.
All in all, the day went very well and I got a lot of help from those reviews. Yay!
Assignment: Choose a graphic designer and write a 2-3 page paper about his or her work. Then design an accordion-fold book with the information from the paper and at least six of the designer’s works that combines the designer’s style with your own. I chose Lou Dorfsman, the man responsible for CBS’s identity for 40 years.
Hopefully (but probably not) my final drafts.
